The Kendall County Democratic Convention

A dozen or so of us convened at the Kendall County Courthouse this morning to do the business leading up to the June State Convention in Ft. Worth. There was the ceremonial passing of the responsibilities from County Chair Bill King to John Weir.

Bill, you've done a great job. I was getting assurances from Gwen that you won't be scarce at Democratic functions, and I trust you won't make a liar out of your wife!

We voted on a number of resolutions to present to the state convention. Considering we were Democrats, and don't walk in lock-step, it was a pretty smooth process. Delegates and alternates were chosen, so we're now set to represent Kendall County in North Texas.

Also a hot point of discussion was how to more effectively fight the minority stigma here in Kendall County. There are no really hot local topics to galvanize the liberal electorate. Given that most of the candidates are from the Republican party, there's a cat-chasing-its-own-tail syndrome in elections that we must break. In lieu of a local issue that fires us up, we need something far simpler: your involvement. Your smiling face and sunny disposition at meetings is a start. You're a Democrat, but the only way to prove that is to act like one. Join us; there's much to do.

Your presence at fundraisers, and yes, don't forget to bring your checkbook. Next opportunity? A fundraiser at the Boerne Middle School South wherein you'll get to meet Rick Bolanos. Rick is running for Congress against Henry Bonilla, who's been an embarrassment for south Texas. It won't cost you a dime to get in, but maybe you'll be inspired to give a little something before you leave. In either case, I'm hoping to at least see you there. We'll give more information as the event nears. So keep coming back to the Kendallian. We'll keep you informed.
