Watch McCain Tap Dance

Last night Jon Stewart interviewed John McCain on The Daily Show. Arizona's senior senator has long benefited politically from his horrible, several-year imprisonment in North Viet Nam. He's a bona fide American hero, and liberals are loathe to criticize him because he gave all for his country.

I apologize in advance for telling things how they are, but that's what we do here at the Kendallian. John McCain is one of the Bush administration's most strident defenders. As such he's due no less than what he's due: harsh criticism.

Jon Stewart has always liked McCain, and treated him with open affection. The last couple of visits to the Daily Show though, Stewart's had tougher and tougher questions for McCain. Not because he's lost his affection for the senator, but because McCain's positions have become increasingly less defensible.

Fast forward to last night: Check this video out. Stewart's brilliant as he says
"President Bush has been very clear that, through his leadership, he has made the world safer. My question to you is simply this: how much safer can the world afford to have him make us?"
McCain tried and tried to dodge, but Stewart made him answer the question...to the best of his ability. McCain spent 9 minutes tap-dancing through the interview, and looked far more foolish than not.

You can't take McCain's service away from him; he couldn't have done more. But he's become almost cartoonish now, carrying water for the fool of a president and his crooked entourage.
