Skirt the issue? You tawkin' t'me? What issue's being skirted? Your claim that we've been liberating countries? Maybe you should do some reading: http://www.antiwar.com/cole/?articleid=2440
"57% of Iraqis say that US troops should leave Iraq immediately. About 57% also admit that life would get harder (i.e. there would be a lot of instability) if the US suddenly withdrew. They want the US gone anyway, and will take their chances." "For the question, "Has the Coalition invasion of Iraq done more harm than good?", in the USA Today poll 46% say "more harm," whereas only 33% say "more good."
These are not the the statistics of people who are liberated. This is a people who are occupied, and we are the occupiers.
• Forty-five per cent of Iraqis believe attacks against British and American troops are justified - rising to 65 per cent in the British-controlled Maysan province;
• 82 per cent are "strongly opposed" to the presence of coalition troops;
• less than one per cent of the population believes coalition forces are responsible for any improvement in security;
• 67 per cent of Iraqis feel less secure because of the occupation;
• 43 per cent of Iraqis believe conditions for peace and stability have worsened;
• 72 per cent do not have confidence in the multi-national forces.
President Bush's platitudes about freedom and democracy are one thing--they make you feel good--but reality is quite another. We here in the reality-based community would hope that you folks in the "gee, I WISH it were this way" community would slap your own selves upside the head and realize that it hasn't worked out the way they told you it would
