Let's Get Serious on International Women's Day, March 8, 2005
34 Million Friends of UNFPA started after the Bush Administration withheld $34 million Congress intended to provide safe motherhood, contraceptives and HIV prevention services to women in the world's poorest countries.

Programs supported by 34 Million Friends and UNFPA include: emergency obstetric care with skilled attendants; OB fistula repair; economic empowerment of women (ex: microloans); the provision of health services, family planning and related reproductive health programs, and HIV/AIDS prevention.

The 14th annual International Women's Day March will take place on Saturday March 5 from 10am to 2 pm. This San Antonio event will begin at Elmendorf Park (W Commerce and N. 24th) and end at Plaza Guadalupe (El Paso and Brazos). There will be speakers and performers before and after the march.
